Are you ready for the New Welsh Language Standards? We’re here to help you

Following the Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011. Wales has now got its own Welsh Language Commissioner.
Two principles underpin in the Commissioner’s work:
• In Wales, the Welsh language should be treated no less favourably than the English language
• Persons in Wales should be able to live their lives through the medium of the Welsh language if they choose to do so.

Instead of the former Welsh language schemes, the Standards will operate in a number of areas including:
• Service delivery
• Policy making
• Operational areas
• Promotion
• Record keeping
• Public organisations, some private companies and third sector organisations must comply with these standards and the Commissioner has the power to launch an investigation if members of the public feel that there has been interference with their freedom to use the language whilst dealing with these bodies.
