A spokesperson on behalf of Cardiff City Council said that they were “extremely happy with the attention the Capital was receiving over the footballing weekend and that realising a vision for Cardiff as a truly billingual capital was a strategy the council was working actively towards in partnership with other key organizations and groups across the city including Menter Caerdydd and Cardiff University”.

CRCC Womens Team are looking for new players!

Join a sociable group of women aged 18+ who learn rugby and fitness skills!  No previous experience is necessary.  Several friendly games are arranged during the season and they would love to welcome new players and supporters.

Wales rugby and football fans will be able to brush up their knowledge of popular Welsh hymns and arias ahead of the big games on 12 November, thanks to a Welsh-language sing-a-long held at the Old Arcade pub in Cardiff’s city centre on Friday, 11 November.


Welsh love song Myfanwy, rousing hymn Calon Lân, and the Welsh national anthem, Hen Wlad fy Nhadau, will be among the famous songs performed at the free event, which starts at 8.30pm, and is being organised by Cardiff University.

Welsh Language Mentor for 5 years!

Eirlys Davies from Rhiwbina has been mentoring Ann Simmons, Barry for five years. They met in a Welsh Mentoring Programme evening organised by Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, Cardiff University back in December 2010 and since then they have been meeting at least once a month to speak Welsh.
Eirlys said: "We communicate in a number of different ways - We e-mail each other, go to St Fagan's, go shopping or out for a meal. I see Ann more like a member of my family these days! It's been great too because I have met a lot of new friends by mentoring Ann.

Over 50 learners from all over Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan came together on Saturday 7 November to enjoy a Saturday Course at Cardiff University.

The theme of the Saturday Course was "Princes and Welsh Castles". The classes were full of fun as the tutors dressed up as the prince, Llywelyn and they welcomed a guest speaker to talk about the Normans. To close the day they enjoyed a music quiz which gave the learners to chat to other people from all different levels.

Success at the London Language Show

4 members of the Welsh for Adults Centre Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan were at the London Language Show over the weekend.

Two of the tutors led a Welsh Taster Session which was included in the main programme of the show. 70 people came long to the session which was significantly higher than many of the other language taster sessions. Glyn Wise said: it was fantastic to see so many people interested in the Welsh language! We had a lot of fun and tried to fit as much Welsh as we could in the half an hour that we had".

The Welsh for Adults Marketing Team were very busy on Friday 28 August, raising awareness of Welsh for Adults courses on Queen Street, Cardiff.

Gwenllian Willis, The Centre's Marketing Officer said: "It's great to be able to come to the City Centre and speak to lots of people about learning Welsh. The repsonse has been very positive too which is fantastic".

Celebrating 40 years of the Summer Course!

The Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan Welsh for Adults Centre have been celebrating 40 years of their Welsh Summer Course this year!
Here's about of history about the course. After the first ever Wlpan Welsh course was introduced in 1974, an experimental 4 week block intensive course was held in Lampeter, Ceredigion in the summer of 1975 and in 1976. This course developed into an 8 week course. The course then moved to Cardiff University in 2004.
