Welsh Language Mentor for 5 years!

Tuesday, 1 December, 2015

Eirlys Davies from Rhiwbina has been mentoring Ann Simmons, Barry for five years. They met in a Welsh Mentoring Programme evening organised by Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, Cardiff University back in December 2010 and since then they have been meeting at least once a month to speak Welsh.
Eirlys said: "We communicate in a number of different ways - We e-mail each other, go to St Fagan's, go shopping or out for a meal. I see Ann more like a member of my family these days! It's been great too because I have met a lot of new friends by mentoring Ann.
Ann said: "Eirlys is a great friend and an inspiration to me. I used to be a bit nervous when I was meeting her, but now I'm not at all, I talk and talk and I don't mind if I make a mistake. Speaking Welsh to her really helps me practise my Welsh".

The Welsh for Adults Centre Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan has been running the mentoring programme for nearly six years and have helped lots of learners to improve their Welsh by offering this service.
