National Tutors Qualification

This is the only specialist qualification approved by the Welsh Assembly Government for tutors of Welsh for Adults all over Wales and it has been validated by Cardiff University and Standards Verification UK. Students study four modules through blended learning methods which means completing half the work by undertaking on-line tasks and the other half by attending face-to-face classes. No specialist Information Technology skills are necessary, only a broadband web connection and willingness to take advantage of flexible learning methods. The four modules are:

  • Module 1: Preparing to teach Welsh for Adults
  • Module 2: Welsh for Adults: Learning and Teaching
  • Module 3: Practice and Resources
  • Module 4: Theories and Principles

The course is part-time over 2 years. Students are expected to:

  • attend introductory training during the Spring / Summer
  • observe experienced tutors teaching lessons
  • attend class 19.00-21.00 every other Wednesday evening for 30 weeks each year.
  • read articles and complete on-line tasks every week
  • attend occasional Saturday workshops during the year
  • be available to undertake teaching practice (two hours per week in a class during the day or in the evening) from September onwards.
  • complete written assignments

There are no exams. The students who complete the assignments and teaching practice successfully become qualified tutors of Welsh for Adults. There are a limited number of places available and entry to the course is by interview.
